Musically, this track offers a number of interesting features to enjoy. This immediately backfires as the listener is removed from the casino and the song trails off.

After playing a few hands and apparently losing, the narrator suggest cheating.

The listener assumes the role of the titular beginner playing a hand of poker. The lyrics to this song depict a story in the second person. The first song on the album is called “ Beginner’s Luck.” This title is apt for the occasion, as each line of the song contains some reference to poker. These techniques hearken back to more influential psychedelic artists, such as the Grateful Dead and the Beatles in their more experimental later days. Each track employs some of the most iconic methods used in psychedelic rock, including the use of uncommon instrumentation and processed vocals. The album I wish to highlight today happens to be their most recent, Gumboot Soup, released on December 31st, 2017. The aptly named King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard happens to be one of those bands. Though one might think this genre died out completely in the early seventies, there are still a persistent few artists trying to revive this strange style of music. When it comes to an aesthetic designed to instill a relaxed feeling, psychedelic art rock is difficult to beat. After the exploration of extremely technical and fast music last week, I’ve decided to slow things down for this post.
